Growing up as a teenager, in the late 1960s to middle 1970s, I became addicted to
AM music radio. FM was around, but AM stations had the power to be listened to
almost anywhere in the USA. I had the influence of Chicago radio, with great Top-40
Stations like WLS, WCFL, WIND…those were certainly a time of turmoil and
change in American, and I was destined to be a part of that change.

Music of that time even influenced me to move to the East Coast and live in New
York City…that influence came from Simon & Garfunkel, “A Heart in New York”.

New York, to that tall skyline I come, flyin' in from London to your door
New York, lookin' down on Central Park
Where they say you should not wander after dark

New York, like a scene from all those movies
But you're real enough to me, but there's a heart
A heart that lives in New York

A heart in New York, a rose on the street
I write my song to that city heartbeat
A heart in New York, a love in her eye, an open door and a friend for the night

New York, you got money on your mind
And my words won't make a dime's worth a difference, so here's to you New York

New York, now my plane is touching down

I wrote my first commercial when I was 15…the only reason the station I wrote it
for did not hire me as a full part-timer, was the fact I rode my 12 speed bike to the
station in the middle of winter 6 miles, and they knew I could not do that in deep
snow…I ended up working at an underground station…yes, it was literally
underground in the basement of an apartment building…enough said about that…

I went on to college after I served four years in the military doing cryptic. My
broadcasting professor asked me what I was doing there…he said I should be
giving the classes after I submitted several commercials in class. College was fun
until I commandeered the Christian Radio Station; at the college I attended, and
played rock music till 6AM…yes I did spend the next Sunday afternoon explaining
my actions to the dean of men and the president of the college. I did not get
kicked out, but I did hear later they changed some policies because of me…a
legacy they still talk about to this very day.

I went on to work for an ad agency in Birmingham Michigan, and wrote several
television commercials for a major car manufacturer, and then on to New York
City, where I lived for nine years working in international trade.

I missed radio so much and one day I found Solid Gold 14K…and now I am so
happy to be a part of such a good group of people who share the same passion I
do…the love of Top 40 Radio from the 50s, 60,s and 70s. Just hope you enjoy
listening as much as I do playing it for you.
